Apply for a Home Air Conditioning and Heating Rebate
Receive a $1,000 rebate to upgrade with an energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner.
The Victorian Government is helping Victorian households improve their thermal comfort by offering rebates to upgrade gas, electric and wood heaters with energy efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners. They will be providing energy-efficient heating and cooling for 250,000 low income and vulnerable households by reducing the upfront cost of purchasing energy-efficient reverse cycle split systems.
The Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program will be delivered through a base rebate of $1,000 provided towards the cost of purchasing and installing a high-efficiency heating and cooling system with a limit of one rebate per household.
Households can receive an additional $200 if they need to cap their old gas heater or $500 if they need to upgrade their switchboard.

About the program:
Upgrades for owner occupiers
The Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program will help low-income and vulnerable households improve thermal comfort by offering rebates to upgrade gas heaters, fixed electric heaters, wood heaters and homes with no heating with energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioners.
These upgrades will improve the quality of life for eligible householders, provide jobs for trades people, produce broader environmental benefits by reducing gas emissions and improving local air quality, and pave the way for the electrification of Victorian households as the state transitions to a renewable energy future.
Upgrades for rental properties
Home Heating and Cooling Upgrade rebates are also available for rental properties to lower running costs and improve the health and wellbeing for renters.
Under the Home Heating and Cooling Upgrades Program, eligible rental properties can receive $1,000 towards the cost of an energy-efficient reverse-cycle air conditioner to upgrade inefficient gas heaters, electric heaters, and wood heaters.
Upgrades for community housing
Solar Victoria is supporting eligible community housing organisations to improve the comfort of their residents by offering rebates to replace existing heating systems with energy efficient electric reverse-cycle air conditioners in their properties.
This is a great opportunity for housing organisations to improve thermal comfort and associated health benefits for low income and vulnerable Victorians.
Further supplementary funding may be available for Community Housing Properties used for long-term social housing and currently participating in the Victorian Housing Register.
A reverse-cycle air conditioner is a great way to provide cooling and heating for your home in one system, with the advantage of it being cost effective and energy-efficient. It is great for longevity (when you conduct regular servicing) and keeps your electricity bills under control.
